Decide what kind of correction you need

A spelling correction, a transfer following a property purchase and an inherited or company-owned connection can raise different documentation questions. Explain the situation accurately to customer service. Moving into a rented property does not by itself establish that the tenant should replace the registered consumer. Confirm the appropriate application before gathering or submitting private documents.

Prepare the core documents

The IESCO-published Consumer Service Manual lists ownership proof or a sale deed, a last paid bill with conditions concerning pending dues, an attested applicant CNIC copy and a power-supply contract for a change of name. Ask the responsible office to confirm the current checklist and submission format for your case. Company applicants can require additional corporate authorisations; do not assume a domestic checklist covers every applicant.

Review the existing balance before applying

Check the latest account record and retain the payment receipt. Ask the supplier to explain how any arrears, deferred amount or outstanding installments affect the request. A change of consumer name is not a method of erasing an account balance. If you dispute a charge, raise that issue clearly and keep its acknowledgement separate from the ownership application.

Use the current official application route

IESCO’s FAQ identifies change of name as an application process rather than a bill-checker feature. Confirm the currently accepted channel with the supplier and submit documents only there. We do not collect CNIC copies, sale deeds or transfer fees. Keep a complete private copy of the application and the acknowledgement or tracking reference issued after submission.

Check the revised record when processed

Read the consumer name, service address and account identifier on the updated bill. Compare spelling with the submitted documents and report any mismatch using the application reference. Do not assume that a reference must remain unchanged, or that a changed label proves all account formalities are complete. Ask the supplier to explain any associated account or deposit update.

Keep the application separate from a new connection

If the premises already have an electricity connection, explain that you are requesting a change to its consumer record. A separate new connection, meter relocation or tariff change can require a different decision. For a sale, inheritance or company restructuring, ask which evidence and authorisation apply instead of adapting an unrelated online form. Avoid publishing your property papers to seek informal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the name using the bill checker?

No. The checker opens a billing record. Only the supplier can process and record the requested name change.

Is correcting a spelling mistake the same as changing ownership?

Not necessarily. Describe the exact issue and ask the supplier which process and evidence apply.

Can a tenant automatically transfer the account?

Do not assume so. Ask the supplier what permission and evidence apply to the tenancy and connection.

Does the transfer remove old arrears?

Do not treat a name change as cancellation of a balance. Ask the supplier to confirm the account position and any disputed amount.

Does this guide guarantee a processing date or fee?

No. Confirm current requirements, charges and the applicable processing period with the supplier, then keep the application acknowledgement.
